ACT Light Rail: Civic - Russell Light Rail extension

Stage One of Capital Metro will be from Gungahlin to Civic. An extension from Civic to Russell has been identified as almost certain to go ahead.

It will run along Constitution Avenue and terminate where the large statue is in central Russell. This will mean a person can step on light rail in Gungahlin and step off in Russell. Many defence workers and their families live in Gungahlin. Paid parking was introduced in Russell in 2014.

ACT Light Rail are the peak light rail lobby group in the Australian Capital Territory. We have members from Community Councils, all political parties, environmental groups and members of the general public.

We believe that light rail offers the best form of mass transit for the ACT, and will serve as the backbone of an integrated public transport system incorporating bus's, park and rides, bicycles and active transport.
